In a chilling development, Odisha's Ganjam district police arrested nine individuals on Thursday, including two family members, following the abduction and murder of real estate entrepreneur Sudhir Kumar Patra. The arrests unfolded a day after Patra's severely decomposed body was discovered on Ketamani hill under Sorada police oversight.

The investigation revealed that Sudhir's niece, Nibedita Patra, and nephew, Tushar Patra, are the primary suspects in this disturbing case. Inspector General of Police, Niti Sekhar, asserted that the family tension stemming from property disputes was the murder's motive, escalated following the demise of Sudhir's brother. The suspects allegedly orchestrated the crime with the help of contracted killers.

The victim was kidnapped at gunpoint and later brutally assaulted, with the horrific scene recorded and used for ransom extortion. Following Sudhir's death from severe injuries, the body was abandoned in an attempt to erase evidence. Multiple items, including firearms and mobile phones, were confiscated, suggesting a broader conspiracy under investigation.
