In a remarkable resolution to a cold case, the Delhi Police have detained Chandra Shekhar Prasad, aged 82, for the murder of his wife back in 1986. This closure comes nearly four decades after the crime, highlighting the perseverance and dedication of law enforcement authorities in unraveling the historic mystery.
Prasad, originally from Nalanda, Bihar, had been living under a false identity in a factory storeroom in outer north Delhi. He was accused of killing his wife at their Shakarpur home in east Delhi on October 19, 1986, over suspicions of infidelity. Following the murder, he absconded and was declared a fugitive a year later.
The breakthrough came as the police reopened the case, utilizing modern investigative methods such as technical surveillance and careful monitoring of his family's movements. The accused, who confessed to the crime, had consistently relocated across states like Bihar, Punjab, and Haryana to evade authorities, until his ultimate capture in Delhi.
