A local court has sentenced Sanjay Singh to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for possessing charas in 2008. Alongside the prison term, Singh faces a fine of Rs 1 lakh, as stated by Assistant District Government Counsel Deepak Tiwari.
Sanjay Singh, originally from Kalyanpur in Kanpur and residing in Mahaveeran locality, was apprehended on April 2, 2008, during a police check led by Balbir Singh Gaur, then in charge of the Premnagar police station.
During the operation, police recovered 300 grams of charas from Singh, who also has a history of criminal activities, including chain snatching and robbery. Additional District and Sessions Judge Sharad Chaudhary delivered the verdict under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
