The Allahabad High Court's Lucknow bench voiced its concerns over a critical shortage of ventilators in hospitals on Wednesday, criticising the efficacy of statistical data if it doesn't result in timely patient care.
During the hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL), Justices Rajan Roy and Manjive Shukla questioned hospitals' ability to assure prompt ventilator provision, rendering available data ineffective without tangible readiness.
The bench called upon the state for a healthcare budget breakdown, urged the expansion of specialty services beyond Lucknow, and stressed regulating private healthcare charges. As the case continues on May 25, notices have been served to the National Medical Commission and central government agencies.
