The Allahabad High Court has dismissed a habeas corpus petition challenging the detention of an accused in a cow slaughter case, citing the matter as one concerning public order.
A bench of Justices J J Munir and Sanjiv Kumar ruled that the detention under the National Security Act (NSA) was valid, emphasizing that the incident was not merely a law and order issue but had broader implications on public order, given the communal sensitivities in the region.
The detention followed the recovery of cow remains in Shamli district, which led to public outrage. The court emphasized the necessity of upholding communal harmony and dismissed the petition filed by Sameer, through his father Shamshad.
