Lok Sabha Speaker Shri Om Birla today unveiled the statue of legendary military leader Lieutenant General Sagat Singh Rathore in Churu, Rajasthan, paying rich tributes to one of India's most decorated and strategic military minds. The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Sikkim Governor Shri Om Prakash Mathur, Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, Union Minister of State for Agriculture Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, and other prominent leaders.

A Tribute to an "Invincible Warrior"

Addressing the gathering, Shri Om Birla described Lt Gen Sagat Singh as an embodiment of courage, leadership, and unwavering service to the nation. He highlighted the General's illustrious military career, spanning critical moments in India's defence history.

From his role in World War II to his decisive leadership during the Goa Liberation Movement, where he hoisted the national flag, Lt Gen Sagat Singh's contributions have left an indelible mark. Shri Birla also underscored his strategic brilliance at the Nathu La border, where his firm decisions strengthened India's defensive posture.

One of his most defining contributions, Shri Birla noted, was during the 1971 Indo-Pak war, where his leadership played a crucial role in the surrender of Pakistani forces in Dhaka, ultimately leading to the creation of Bangladesh.

Rajasthan's Legacy of Valor

Highlighting Rajasthan's deep-rooted tradition of bravery, the Lok Sabha Speaker said the state has always stood at the forefront of national service. "Every family in Rajasthan carries a spirit of patriotism and sacrifice," he remarked, linking Lt Gen Sagat Singh's legacy to the broader cultural ethos of the region.

More Than a Memorial: A Source of Inspiration

Shri Birla emphasized that the statue is not merely a tribute to the past, but a living symbol of inspiration for future generations. He said such memorials play a vital role in instilling values of discipline, courage, and national service among youth.

"This statue will inspire young minds to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation," he said.

Call to Youth for Nation-Building

Urging the younger generation to learn from the life of Lt Gen Sagat Singh, Shri Birla said that courage, determination, and dedication are the cornerstones of success—both in national service and personal life.

He called upon youth to actively participate in nation-building and carry forward the legacy of India's great heroes.

Honouring a National Legacy

The unveiling ceremony stands as a significant moment in preserving and celebrating India's military heritage. Lt Gen Sagat Singh's legacy continues to inspire not only the armed forces but also citizens across the country.
