Micron Technology Advocates for Stricter Export Controls
Micron Technology is urging the U.S. Congress to pass legislation that limits export of chipmaking equipment to Chinese competitors. This initiative, embodied in the MATCH Act, aims to curb China's growth in memory chip manufacturing, a sector dominated by South Korean firms. The bill will also impact foreign companies that sell equipment to China.
Micron Technology is spearheading an effort to influence U.S. lawmakers to enact stricter export controls on chipmaking equipment to Chinese competitors. This includes new proposed laws under the MATCH Act, aimed at limiting equipment access for Chinese memory chip firms.
The U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee began deliberations on the MATCH Act, which seeks to tighten loopholes in export controls and compel foreign suppliers, like Titan ASML, to align with U.S. restrictions.
As China continues to advance rapidly in this sector, Micron, the largest U.S.-based memory chipmaker, advocates for more government action to curb potential national security threats stemming from Chinese dominion in global chip manufacturing.
