In a significant digital leap forward, over 2.6 million households have chosen the self-enumeration option in the initial phase of Census 2027 across various Indian states and Union territories, according to the Registrar General of India (RGI). This marks a pioneering shift towards technology-driven participation in the national census.
These households accessed an online platform to submit their details, embracing a more convenient and efficient method of contributing to the country's development. The self-enumeration facility, part of the house listing and housing census stage, underscores an increasing public inclination toward digital solutions in civic exercises.
The census, unfolding in two phases, saw field operations begin on April 16. For the first time, enumerators are equipped with a specialized mobile application to collect household data, including basic amenities, head of the household information, and ownership details, advancing the traditional methods with a complete digital framework.
