Germany's Defence Minister, Boris Pistorius, has revealed that a decisive moment is approaching for the Franco-German FCAS fighter jet project. Speaking on Wednesday, he expressed the expectation that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and French President Emmanuel Macron will resolve the project's future within the week.
The anticipated decision could break the current deadlock, which has been caused by a prolonged disagreement over control between France's Dassault Aviation and Airbus, the latter representing Germany and Spain. The FCAS fighter jet project is valued at 100 billion euros.
Pistorius underscored the pivotal role of the heads of state in moving the ambitious project forward, which could redefine European aerospace collaboration.
