Controversy Strikes: Delhi High Court Battles Social Media Missteps

In a significant development, Justice Tejas Karia of the Delhi High Court recused himself from a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) hearing. The PIL called for contempt actions against AAP leaders, including Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia, for sharing court hearing footage online, a move seen as undermining judicial independence.

The PIL, filed by advocate Vaibhav Singh, was scheduled for a hearing but will now proceed before a different bench. The plea claims the unauthorized dissemination of recordings aims to malign the court's image. It also involves major social media platforms like Meta, X, and Google.

Singh's petition suggests forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the incident and recommends removing the contentious material from the internet. Amidst the controversy, Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma has refused to step aside from the liquor policy case, maintaining judicial integrity against unfounded bias allegations.
