In a significant development, Karachi's judicial authorities have remanded a man in 14-day custody following grave allegations of bomb threats directed at the US Consulate. The suspect, identified as Sharjeel Akbar, was apprehended on Sunday, subsequent to claims that he intended to plant a bomb near the consulate.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded on April 15 when consulate staff alerted security officials about a threatening call made by a man known as Akbar. Despite a thorough search conducted by the bomb disposal unit, no explosive device was found in the vicinity of the consulate, offering a temporary sigh of relief.
The judicial proceedings, presided over by Magistrate Imanullah Phulpoto, will further delve into potential links between Akbar and the earlier attack on the US Consulate on March 1, when protesters stormed the premises amidst political unrest stemming from US-Israel actions against Iran.
