The Bombay High Court has ordered the transfer of a dowry death investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing significant gaps in the initial probe by local authorities. This action came after the victim's father criticized the Thane district police for their alleged lackluster handling of the case.
A bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Sandesh Patil noted that the discrepancies in the police's investigation and the resulting charge sheet warranted intervention. The court underscored the need for a thorough and unbiased inquiry by the CBI to ensure justice is served.
The case, initially registered in February 2023, involves allegations against the victim's husband and in-laws, tied to harassment related to dowry demands. Following the victim's suspicious death and inadequate initial investigations, the court emphasized the importance of involving forensic experts to verify the circumstances surrounding her death.
