French Soldier Killed in Hezbollah-Linked Attack in Lebanon

A French soldier was killed and three others wounded in southern Lebanon during a mission to clear a road. The attack is suspected to be carried out by Iran-backed Hezbollah, according to UNIFIL and French officials on Saturday.

French President Emmanuel Macron condemned the attack while speaking with Lebanese leaders, describing it as 'unacceptable'. He urged Lebanese authorities to take action against the culprits.

Initial assessments cited by UNIFIL suggest the attack was the work of non-state actors, pointing to Hezbollah. The French patrol came under small-arms fire while opening a route to an isolated UNIFIL post in Ghandouriyeh.
