Justice B V Nagarathna emphasized the vital need for maintaining judicial independence in an age increasingly influenced by technology. Speaking at the 22nd Biennial State-Level Conference of Judicial Officers, she argued that the future of justice must not be shaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI) alone but firmly guided by constitutional values and a dedication to fairness.

Justice Nagarathna firmly stated that AI must remain a peripheral tool in judicial processes. She warned against allowing AI to replace human judgment, as doing so could weaken the judiciary's foundational principles. She highlighted the moral responsibility to ensure that judicial processes retain empathy, compassion, and a deep understanding of human life, aspects no machine can replicate.

The presence of prominent figures like Chief Justice of India Surya Kant further underscored the importance of her remarks. Justice Nagarathna called for vigilance against over-reliance on AI, which poses dangers to cognitive autonomy. The judiciary, she emphasized, must remain free from any undue AI influence, ensuring judges retain control over their reasoning and decisions.
