According to police, around 2 p.m. on Friday, one of the four managed to escape and alert officials about the plight of his three companions, who had slipped into deeper waters.
Upon receiving the information, local police collaborated with divers to commence a search operation. This effort was further bolstered by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), which joined forces with the police for a comprehensive search. Despite an extensive effort that stretched late into the night on Friday, the search had to continue the following morning.
The intensified operation on Saturday morning led to the recovery of the bodies of Shubham Yadav (19), Abhay Yadav alias Bunty (18), and Shiv Sahni (20) within a few hours. Preliminary investigations noted the presence of a sudden drop into deep water coupled with strong currents, explaining the difficulty faced by the youths.
