Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta voiced her disapproval over the non-passage of the Mahila Shakti Amendment Bill in Parliament by donning a black armband during a summit on Saturday. Describing it as a "painful" setback, Gupta accused Opposition parties of hindering the 131st Constitutional Amendment Bill's progress in the Lok Sabha.

Speaking at a women's entrepreneurs summit organized by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Gupta criticized the Opposition's "anti-women" stance. She led chants in favor of women's rights, blasting the Opposition for allegedly undermining efforts to enhance female representation in Parliament.

Gupta pointed out the discrepancy between India's female representation compared to Western countries, where women hold nearly half the parliamentary seats. She underscored the necessity of enhancing women's roles in decision-making and criticised past actions by the Congress and its allies that she claims obstructed progress on women's empowerment.
