At least two merchant vessels reported being struck by gunfire as they attempted to navigate the Strait of Hormuz, according to three maritime security and shipping sources. This incident occurred shortly after Iran announced it was reasserting control over the key waterway.

Earlier, maritime trackers had observed a convoy of eight tankers undertaking the first significant crossing of the strait since hostilities between the U.S., Israel, and Iran ignited seven weeks ago. Iran declared it was reimposing stringent military oversight, a move that curtails a waterway responsible for about a fifth of global oil trade. Simultaneously, the U.S. continued its blockade of Iranian ports.

In a bold declaration on his Telegram channel, Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei affirmed that the Iranian navy stands ready to deal "new bitter defeats" to its adversaries. U.S. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, referenced optimistic developments regarding Iran but hinted that hostilities could resume in the absence of a peace agreement before the ceasefire's expiration on Wednesday.
