Zelenskiy Alerts on Belarus-Russia Alliance as Tensions Rise Again

On Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy raised alarms about a potential Belarus-Russia collaboration in the protracted conflict against Ukraine. His remarks came in response to Ukrainian intelligence indicating strategic military movements near Ukraine's border.

Zelenskiy cited reports of road construction and artillery buildup near the Belarusian border, suggesting covert Russian plans to involve Belarus once again. Despite assurances from Belarusian President Lukashenko, who has previously permitted Russian advances, Belarus is amplifying its military alliance with Russia, including deploying tactical nuclear weapons.

Meanwhile, the U.S. has been cautiously navigating diplomatic relations with Belarus, linking sanctions relief to the country's political actions. Although sanctions were partly lifted following political prisoner releases, Belarus remains under scrutiny for potentially supporting Russia's war efforts against Ukraine.
