The Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration has initiated stringent actions in response to recent labour unrest. The administration aims to cancel the licenses of 203 contractors and blacklist firms in 24 factories due to alleged violations of labour laws, officials reported on Friday.
With tensions escalating over demands for wage hikes, specific contractors stand accused of denying workers their rightful benefits. The labour department has not only demanded overdue payments totaling Rs 1.16 crore but has also implemented a 21 percent wage increase effective April 1.
Authorities have made it clear that only mandatory deductions such as EPF and ESI will be entertained from wages. Violations will result in severe repercussions, including licence cancellations and prosecutions. The measures are intended to protect both contract and permanent workers' rights in Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad.
