The Supreme Court sharply criticized the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh for failing to address illegal sand mining in the National Chambal Gharial Sanctuary.
Rampant mining in the riverbed poses severe risks to the endangered gharial and other aquatic wildlife, prompting the court to demand immediate action.
The court ordered the installation of high-resolution, Wi-Fi-enabled CCTV cameras along mining routes, with live monitoring overseen by police and forest officials to ensure effective enforcement.
