An online loan app is at the center of a legal storm following the death of first-year BDS student Nithin Raj R L, who was allegedly mentally harassed and intimidated by the app, leading to his tragic demise, according to police reports.

The case, registered on April 16 at Chakkarakkallu police station, accuses the app of extortion and violating Kerala's financial laws. It reportedly loaned Rs 15,000 to Raj at a 36% interest rate, amidst accusations of faculty harassment based on caste at his dental college.

In response, police and several state commissions have launched investigations. The college management dismissed a department head amid protests, as inquiries continue into both financial misconduct and allegations of caste-based harassment within the institution.
