Rising Tensions: Threats Against the Chinese Embassy in Japan

The Chinese Embassy in Japan announced it has been receiving multiple threats and criticized Japanese authorities for ineffective measures in response. This comes amid rising tensions between the two countries.

According to Shi Yong, the acting Chinese ambassador to Japan, the embassy received a threatening letter from a group identifying as former police and military personnel, warning of potential attacks on China's diplomatic missions in Japan. The embassy immediately reported these threats to Japanese police, only to criticize them for not taking the matter seriously or implementing effective solutions.

This escalation followed comments made by Japan's Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi regarding possible military responses to Chinese actions against Taiwan. Consequently, both diplomatic and economic tensions have risen. A subsequent incident involved a Japanese army officer being arrested at the Chinese Embassy's compound with a knife, leading to heightened security measures, which the embassy states are still insufficient in mitigating threats.
