Madhya Pradesh’s Bold Move: Clamping Down on Illegal Sand Mining

The Morena district administration has enacted a sweeping ban on sand mining and transportation from the Chambal River in an effort to tackle illegal activities. This decision follows a recent Supreme Court reprimand directed at the Madhya Pradesh government over rampant mining violations in the region.

To enforce the ban, Special Armed Force personnel have been deployed at strategic locations to monitor and curb unauthorized mining operations. Vehicles used in illegal activities will face stringent actions, including immediate seizure and potential early auction, while officials will maintain constant surveillance to ensure compliance.

Additionally, the district has prohibited fuel sales to unregistered vehicles, targeting criminal activities operated by such vehicles. The measures, which will be in effect from April 15 to June 14, aim to bolster law enforcement efforts and safeguard the integrity of the region's environment.
