The Delhi High Court has promised an unbiased review of Santosh Kumar Singh's plea for early release. Singh, serving a life sentence for the 1996 rape and murder of Priyadarshini Mattoo, remains hopeful for reconsideration after the court criticized the Sentence Review Board (SRB) for relying heavily on public perception.

During recent proceedings, Justice Anup J Bhambhani remarked that Singh, although widely unpopular, deserves an objective evaluation rather than judgment led by public sentiment. The case has been linked with other similar petitions, all set for further hearings on April 20. Singh has been in custody for 31 years, stressing the need for reformative justice.

The high court noted past precedents where convicts in similarly grave offenses received parole, highlighting the question of reformative justice. Despite opposition, the court acknowledged Singh's advancement in open jail conditions and his professional conduct as a practicing lawyer, indicating a potential for reform and eventual reintegration.
