Maharashtra's revenue minister, Chandrashekhar Bawankule, has strongly denied allegations that he and his family own hundreds of acres of land, asserting that these claims aim to tarnish his image. In response, he plans to file a Rs 10 crore defamation lawsuit against those circulating the accusations.
The controversy arises after Rameshwar Shivaji Darekar, via his Facebook page, uploaded a video alleging that Bawankule owns approximately 1,147 acres of land across Kamptee tehsil. This led to a police complaint by Nikhil Ingle, Bawankule's social media coordinator, resulting in Darekar being booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Addressing another issue, Bawankule commented on alleged misappropriations in a housing scheme for economically weaker sections. He announced that a Special Investigation Team has been established to investigate the matter. Additionally, Bawankule expressed grief over a fatal accident in Nashik, promising state assistance to affected families.
