Goa is ramping up preparations for the upcoming by-election in the Ponda assembly constituency, scheduled for April 9. The election follows the death of the incumbent agriculture minister Ravi Naik, prompting the need for the by-poll.

A review meeting was chaired by South Goa Collector and District Election Officer Egna Cleetus, attended by various officials including Expenditure Observer Sharyu Adhe and South Goa Superintendent of Police Santosh Desai. Authorities discussed critical measures including the enhancement of entry and exit point surveillance and careful monitoring for any illicit financial activity.

The district administration stressed the importance of fulfilling minimum facilities at polling stations, managing postal ballots professionally, and ensuring strongroom security with around-the-clock surveillance. Additionally, initiatives were outlined to support disabled and senior voters with ramps, wheelchairs, and volunteer assistance.
