Modi Ensures No Reduction in South Indian Lok Sabha Seats Amidst Population Control Successes

In a definitive move on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that there would be no reduction in Lok Sabha seats for South Indian states that have effectively controlled population growth. Modi's statement was part of his address during an NDA Assembly election rally, where he highlighted proposed legislative amendments.

The Prime Minister clarified that Parliament would expand the total number of seats to accommodate increased representation, particularly ensuring a 33% reservation of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state Assemblies. The legislative session is set to extend from April 16–18 to address these amendments, safeguarding the interests of states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh from seat losses.

Amid criticisms from Congress citing overrepresentation concerns, Modi reiterated the NDA's commitment to women's empowerment through policies such as the Nari Shakti Vandan Act. He called for all-party support, underlining government initiatives aimed at enhancing women's roles across societal and entrepreneurial spheres.
