Supreme Court Upholds Dismissal of Bank Manager Over Misconduct

In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has reinstated the dismissal of a senior bank manager. This decision emphasizes the principle that higher authority entails greater accountability. The court scrutinized allegations against the manager who allegedly conspired to embezzle funds and steal records, reinforcing that leadership roles require integrity.

The apex court overturned a Delhi High Court decision that had modified the manager’s dismissal to compulsory retirement. While the lower court had noted discrepancies in penalties among co-delinquents, the Supreme Court stressed that differing roles warranted differentiated punishments. Equating a senior manager with a lower-ranking gunman was deemed illogical.

The court maintained that the severity of punishment was justified by the manager's elevated position and responsibility level, underscoring that judicial interference in disciplinary actions should be exercised with caution.
