The Thane district in Maharashtra has embarked on a disaster preparedness exercise to enhance its emergency response readiness, officials announced this Saturday. Conducted in collaboration with the National and State Disaster Response Forces, this fortnight-long programme, running from April 1 to April 15, seeks to bolster coordination and improve the region's capacity to respond to both natural and man-made disasters.

Personnel totaling 25, including senior officers, have been stationed across the district to lead hands-on training sessions. These sessions aim to familiarize local administrative staff and first responders with critical rescue operations, inter-agency cooperation, and specialized disaster-response equipment.

Involving approximately 200 participants at various locations such as tehsil offices and civic bodies in Navi Mumbai, Thane, and other areas, the exercise engages officials and community volunteers. The participants include subdivisional officers, tehsildars, civil defense personnel, police patils, and 'Aapda Mitra' and 'Aapda Sakhi' community volunteers, all committed to reinforcing their disaster response capabilities.
