The Uttarakhand High Court has stressed the importance of a sensitive approach in cases involving consensual relationships between minors. This declaration came from Justice Alok Mehra while overseeing a case where the relationship between two 15-year-old minors came into legal question.
The case initiated from a complaint by the girl's father, accusing the boy of abducting her. However, the girl later conceded the consensual nature of their relationship to the magistrate, countering earlier claims of coercion.
The court's interim decision included halting proceedings before a subordinate court and a Dehradun-based Juvenile Justice Board, highlighting the statement of the girl and her age as critical factors in the ongoing case discussions.
