Seema Rani Khakha, the wife of a suspended Delhi government officer charged with multiple counts of rape, has approached the Delhi High Court seeking bail. Her husband, Premoday Khakha, faces serious accusations of repeatedly raping a minor girl between November 2020 and January 2021.
This is Seema Rani's second bail plea after the Supreme Court directed her to wait a year before applying again at the trial court. Her lawyer argued that she has been in custody since August 2023 and has been cleared of abetment charges, but the prosecution claims she could potentially influence key witnesses.
The high-profile case underlines severe breaches of familial trust, with the trial court previously denying her bail. As proceedings continue, the court has adjourned the hearing to May 4, allowing Seema Rani's counsel to attend in person. Both husband and wife were arrested in August 2023 following the survivor's testimony.
