The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has registered a remarkable 46% surge in property tax collections for 2025-26, generating a total of Rs 3,116.62 crore. This rise is attributed to enhanced compliance efforts, the introduction of the property tax amnesty scheme, and rigorous enforcement measures.
According to official statements, there was a significant increase in the number of taxpayers, from 11,33,161 last year to 13,52,562 this year. The Sumpattikar Niptaan Yojana scheme contributed Rs 1,236.03 crore alone, attracting new taxpayers and broadening the tax base.
MCD has utilized third-party data to identify non-compliant properties, seeing increased revenue from previously unassessed categories. The civic body continues to urge remaining defaulters to clear dues as the SUNIYO scheme deadline extends to April 30, with additional penalties imposed for delayed payment.
