Delhi Police Faces Staff Shortage Amid Rising Crime Rates

The Delhi Police is grappling with a shortage of personnel, with 14.5 percent of its sanctioned strength unfilled. This includes significant vacancies at the Assistant Commissioner of Police level, with nearly 44 percent of positions unoccupied. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai provided these figures, indicating critical gaps in the police force's manpower.

Despite the staffing issues, Rai assured that adequate resources and facilities, including women help desks and cyber police stations, are operational across all 15 police districts in the national capital. To combat crime, the police are focusing on dynamic crime hotspots, deploying resources like foot patrols, PCR vans, and emergency response vehicles to boost visibility and deter criminal activities.

Crimes against women and children remain a concern, with thousands of cases reported annually. To address these challenges, the Delhi Police is also engaging in integrated patrolling involving local police, PCR staff, and traffic police, alongside community policing initiatives to foster better relationships between the police and public.
