Explosions rocked Bujumbura on Tuesday night, leaving four people dead in the aftermath of what authorities described as an electrical short circuit at a military ammunition store.

The incident, which resulted in several hours of intense, reverberating blasts, sent city residents into a state of panic. Among the casualties were a young woman in Musaga and a man near Gasekebuye church.

Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as they sought shelter from the barrage of projectiles. Authorities are yet to provide an official death toll as President Evariste Ndayishimiye extended condolences to victims' families.
