Cracking Down on Illegal Opium: A Surge in Raigarh District Busts

Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district is witnessing a crackdown on illegal opium cultivation, as authorities discovered the fifth such case in just 18 days. In Navin Ghatgaon village, part of Lailunga police jurisdiction, two individuals were arrested following a drone surveillance operation that led to the uncovering of the illegal farming activity.

Police identified a farmer, Sadhram Nagvanshi, as the landowner where opium was being cultivated. Meanwhile, dried opium was discovered at another village resident's house, Abhimanyu Nagvanshi, who was attempting to destroy evidence when authorities intervened. Both individuals are currently in custody, while further investigations into the network's extent are underway.

Elsewhere, law enforcement officials are questioning Tansingh Nagvanshi concerning suspicious cultivation activities. Forensic analysis of plant remnants from his home is pending, which could lead to additional legal proceedings. Previous weeks have seen numerous arrests and opium seizures across the district, including a significant bust associated with a BJP leader.
