Eid al-Fitr in Quetta was marked by heated protests against enforced disappearances, as the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) and the Voice for Baloch Missing Persons (VBMP) spearheaded public demonstrations. The protesters decried the ongoing detention of Baloch leaders and highlighted the plight of families suffering from the prolonged absence of their loved ones.
According to reports from The Balochistan Post, demonstrators at the BYC rally specifically urged the release of Dr Mahrang Baloch and other activists who have been detained for nearly a year. Protesters described their imprisonment as politically driven, emphasizing the unjust nature of their detainment.
The VBMP protest saw significant involvement from the families of missing persons, who linked their participation to unresolved grief during what should be a festive period. Yasmeen Hameed, an affected family member, criticized Pakistani authorities for lacking transparency and legal justification for the detentions, as articulated by The Balochistan Post.
