The Himachal Pradesh Assembly meeting on Friday turned turbulent as the escalating drug menace dominated discussions. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu accused the BJP of exploiting the issue for political gains.
Sukhu asserted that the problem did not arise suddenly under Congress rule, pointing fingers at the previous BJP administration for the spread of drug issues to rural areas. Specific panchayats have been mapped, and numerous law enforcement personnel have faced dismissal or arrest for involvement in drug activities, he announced.
Despite opposition walkouts, Sukhu requested bipartisan cooperation in combating narcotics, highlighting ongoing efforts like the 'Walkathon Against Drugs'. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Jai Ram Thakur condemned the misuse of police resources, demanding robust action against drug trafficking instead of political surveillance by law enforcement.
