On the sixth day of the budget session, the opposition staged a walkout in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly, fueled by concerns over the escalating drug menace in the state. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur accused the police of being complicit in trafficking operations, highlighting recent arrests of four officers allegedly involved.
Thakur criticized the government’s efforts, labeling them as superficial, and argued that the administration was more focused on symbolic campaigns rather than substantive action to dismantle drug networks. He demanded a grassroots approach to eliminate the drug trade and condemned the alleged misuse of police for political surveillance.
The situation intensified as opposition members sought accountability from the government for what they deemed a lack of seriousness in addressing the issue. The walkout emphasized the demand for robust and effective measures, reflecting a public outcry for tangible action against the spread of drug abuse, especially among the youth.
