CBI Steps In: High Court Orders Independent Probe in Jharkhand's 'Peyjal' Scam Assault Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken charge of a contentious case linked to the Peyjal scam in Jharkhand's Ranchi, initially managed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The move follows orders from the Ranchi High Court, aiming at ensuring an unbiased probe.

Prime suspect Santosh Kumar alleged that during his interrogation by Assistant Director Pratik and Assistant Shubham of the ED on January 12, he faced physical assault and coercion. Kumar claimed the officers forced him to sign a declaration under duress after inflicting severe head injuries.

Responding to pleas for case dismissal by the accused officers, the high court underscored the need for an independent investigation due to the involvement of a central agency in the allegations. Consequently, the CBI registered the case anew, as directed by the court.
