In a tense encounter in Odisha's Sambalpur district, police apprehended a notorious criminal with a history of over 40 cases. The suspect, identified as Tima alias Dhaneswar Jhankar, was injured during an exchange of gunfire.
The incident unfolded in the dense Dumchhali forest under Rairakhol Police Station limits, early Wednesday morning. As police approached, Jhankar and his associates opened fire in an attempt to escape, prompting the police to retaliate in self-defense.
Authorities arrested Jhankar and three others, recovering a pistol, ammunition, and tools for cutting power wires. Jhankar, who avoided detection by not using a mobile phone, is currently undergoing treatment for leg injuries.
