In the wake of a devastating whirlwind affecting Mayurbhanj district, Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has urgently instructed local authorities to accelerate relief efforts. This natural calamity, characterized by strong circular winds, struck Karanjia block villages, resulting in two fatalities and 38 injuries, officials reported.
The severe weather incident has impacted over 3,000 people across nine villages. Relief operations have seen the evacuation of approximately 2,200 individuals, who are currently residing in six designated camps. Extensive assessments reveal damage to over 500 homes and crops spanning more than 111 hectares due to the storm.
The Odisha government has responded by disbursing Rs 5.70 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to aid in rebuilding efforts, essential supplies, and operational relief camps. Minister Pujari emphasized the swift execution of house-building assistance disbursements within 48 hours and called for strengthened medical support, particularly for expectant mothers, in the impacted regions.
