India-Iran Diplomacy and the Strait Tensions: Unraveling the Seized Tankers Saga
India officially denied negotiations with Iran over the release of three tankers seized in February. These ships, alleged to be involved in illegal activities, were confiscated near Indian waters. Despite reports, Indian authorities refute claims of exchanged dialogues concerning safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz for Indian vessels.
The Indian government has refuted claims of holding talks with Iran regarding three tankers seized off Indian waters. The vessels, tied to US-sanctioned networks, are alleged to have been involved in illicit ship-to-ship oil transfers.
On Monday, Reuters cited sources claiming Iran sought their release in return for the safe passage of Indian ships through the Strait of Hormuz. Since the onset of tensions involving the US and Israel, maritime traffic in the Strait has been severely affected.
India's foreign affairs spokesman, Randhir Jaiswal, labeled these allegations as unfounded, confirming that the tankers, currently docked in Mumbai, are not Iranian-owned. Despite this, India continues to ensure safe transit negotiations, with 22 Indian ships still navigating the troubled waters.
