The Kerala High Court has intervened in the ongoing Sabarimala temple gold loss controversy by staying the observations made by the vigilance court regarding allegations against the Tantri, or chief priest, Kandararu Rajeevaru. Justice A Badharudeen's decision arose from an appeal by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to cancel Rajeevaru's bail and nullify the vigilance court's comments while granting that bail.
In its appeal, the SIT argued that the relief provided to Rajeevaru has allowed a 'grave miscarriage of justice' and could obstruct ongoing investigations. The SIT is probing alleged misappropriation of gold from temple artefacts. The vigilance court previously granted bail to Rajeevaru, stating there was no evidence against him in cases concerning the alleged loss of gold from temple icons and artefacts.
The High Court has now asked Rajeevaru to clarify his stance on the SIT's appeal. The case will examine whether the vigilance court's perceptions were unwarranted and if Rajeevaru's actions in signing or abstaining from signing certain documents have implications on the investigations.
