Crackdown on Social Media Rumours After Uttam Nagar Murder

Delhi Police has launched a crackdown on several social media accounts accused of disseminating rumours and false information related to the Uttam Nagar murder case. Legal actions have been initiated to curb these activities, officials reported on Friday.

A viral video emerged on social media on March 10, featuring a QR code soliciting financial donations in connection to the murder. Upon investigation, authorities discovered that approximately Rs 37 lakh had already been transferred to the suspect account within just two days of its circulation.

Concerned about a potential scam targeting the public, police have instructed the bank manager to freeze all transactions on the said account. This preemptive move aims to prevent any further fraudulent activities. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Kushal Pal Singh highlighted the swift police response, including 14 take-down requests sent to the social media platform 'X' and eight to Instagram. Strict measures will follow against those spreading misinformation, as public peace remains a priority for law enforcement.
