The Assam-Nagaland border dispute dominated discussions in the Nagaland Assembly, highlighting persistent security problems, alleged encroachments, and resident challenges. Legislator Achumbemo Kikon drew attention to growing tensions, particularly in the Ralan sector along the border.
Kikon criticized Assam's increased police presence post the 1972 agreement, asserting neutrality issues with deployed forces. The Deputy Chief Minister, Yanthungo Patton, reported a significant rise in Assam police outposts, counter to the agreed terms. Complaints included economic activity disruptions, such as a blocked petrol pump project by Naga entrepreneurs.
Amid unresolved boundary issues, the assembly explored administrative solutions to safeguard local interests. Efforts to secure basic services, address territorial mapping challenges, and execute development projects remain pivotal as discussed by key ministers KG Kenye and Jacob Zhimomi.
