In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court granted bail to Kashmiri separatist leader Shabir Ahmed Shah in a high-profile terror funding case. Shah was previously arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on allegations of facilitating subversive activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
The decision, delivered by a bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta, noted several inaccuracies in the trial proceedings. This comes after Shah's prolonged incarceration, which began with his arrest on June 4, 2019. A detailed order specifying stringent bail conditions will soon follow.
The court's decision marks a pivotal moment, as it highlights potential procedural lapses in the investigation. Senior advocates Colin Gonsalves and Siddharth Luthra represented Shah and the NIA, respectively, during the hearing.
