On Wednesday, a man was detained for driving a van into a security barrier near the White House, authorities reported. The incident occurred just before 6:30 a.m., according to the Secret Service.
Upon the crash into the temporary security barrier, Secret Service uniformed officers swiftly arrested the suspect. The individual's identity has yet to be disclosed, and he is undergoing interviews with investigators.
The Secret Service announced that criminal charges are pending. A police bomb squad was dispatched to the scene to inspect the vehicle, ultimately declaring it safe.
