The Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly, R Ashoka, criticized the state government's handling of Scheduled Castes and Tribes funds on Tuesday, alleging that significant resources intended for these communities have been redirected to finance various guarantee schemes.

During a discussion on the 2026–27 state budget, Ashoka highlighted that Rs 14,198 crore was diverted just this financial year from SCSP and TSP allocations to non-targeted schemes, questioning the commitment to social justice. He detailed how funds were reallocated to programs like Gruha Lakshmi and Shakti, raising concerns over the effectiveness of budget implementation.

Moreover, Ashoka expressed disapproval of SC/ST funds being used for unrelated departments like wildlife conservation and infrastructure projects, emphasizing a disconnect between government allocations and actual welfare outcomes for disadvantaged communities.
