Assam's 'Orunodoi' Delivers Financial Hope to 40 Lakh Women: Not an Election Freebie
Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized that the 'Orunodoi' scheme, offering Rs 9,000 to 40 lakh families, is a genuine aid, not an election gimmick. Launched in 2020, the scheme supports women under specific criteria by disbursing financial aid every month, aiming to alleviate poverty effectively.

In a significant move, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed Rs 9,000 to each of 40 lakh Assam families under the 'Orunodoi' scheme, emphasizing its role as a compassionate state initiative, not a mere electoral strategy.
The Orunodoi program, launched in 2020, is specifically designed for women who meet certain criteria, ensuring focused assistance rather than universal coverage. Eligible women receive Rs 1,250 monthly, which the government believes is critical in reducing poverty in Assam.
Chief Minister Sarma highlighted the success of the scheme, stating it has lifted countless beneficiaries from poverty. The Rs 9,000 disbursement, including a Rs 4,000 Bihu bonus, reinforces the scheme's ongoing commitment to financial stability for Assam's women-led families.
