British Culture Minister Lisa Nandy announced on Monday her intentions to assess Germany publisher Axel Springer's £575 million acquisition of the Telegraph Media Group. The review will be conducted under the UK's public interest and foreign state influence media mergers regime.
This significant deal unexpectedly overtook a rival offer from the Daily Mail owner, DMGT, which had already been submitted for regulatory evaluation last Friday.
Nandy, in a written statement, emphasized her commitment to conducting a thorough assessment in her quasi-judicial capacity, as outlined by the Enterprise Act 2002. She aims to ensure that the review meets the standards set by this framework.
